Moriarty’s is a high-end cannabis company based in Seattle. The state is flooded with companies in this vein, making it difficult to stand out. The concept behind the branding was to merge the classic feel of prohibition-era signage with a somewhat psychedelic tone. The logo consists of the name, Moriarty’s, set in a modified slab serif typeface, surrounded by fine line work in the shape of an umbrella, alluding to Seattle’s climate, and a hemp leaf denoting the brand's offerings. In reference to classic cigar boxes, Moriarty’s boxes feature a band that wraps vertically around the package, and a unique color and pattern by blend. To extend the brand I designed common collateral like matches, rolling papers, and a "Royal" sized cigar.
Skateboarding is growing both in popularity and credibility. It’s great exercise and a fun alternative to team sports but it's hard; over 50% of new skaters quit within a year. RYZR is a mobile app paired with a two-piece device that attaches to a skateboard between the trucks and board. RYZR captures most relevant metrics involved with skateboarding: distance traveled, vertical gain, speed, airtime, and even board rotation. This enables the app to accurately identify hundreds of complex tricks as the user lands them. RYZR also offers tips on fundamental technique such as foot positioning and how to time your pop in order to better nail a trick. As users improve, they are awarded badges to share on social media.
Lex Lingo is a MC/Singer/Songwriter from Renton, Wa. Lex approached me in need of a lyric video for his song “Frostbite”. Rather than generate a simple kinetic type video, I took this opportunity to delve into the world of animation. The first step in the process was to narrow down a handful of typefaces and colors that would express the upbeat vibe of the song. Next I laid out a storyboard to determine how the song would be broken up to feature a unique animation for each line. The result is a lively and vibrant video that perfectly matches the energy of the track.
